An apology
Flowers fix nothing on their own, and we do not pretend otherwise. What they do is open the door to the conversation that has to happen next. So in these cases what is written on the card matters more than the size of the bouquet.
- I was wrong. I do not want to justify it, I want to put it right.
- You are right. It took me far too long to see it.
- I am not asking you to forget. I am asking you to let me try better.
- I am sorry. With no "but" after it.
- Give me the conversation and I will give you the rest.
